Can somebody with experience living with a back yard please advise? The neighbors are throwing toys into our back yard. We’ve never had a back yard before. Is this normal? We have no children.
Our hypotheses:
- The neighbors are returning toys thown into their back yard by the children of the family we bought the house from.
- The neighbor kids are throwing their toys into our back yard.
- The neighbors are shy and give strange gifts.
Regardless of the cause, we’re stuck about what to do next since we never talk to any of the neighbors. Do we keep the various Hot Wheels and Star Wars dudes? Do we throw them back over the fence and risk escalating the toy throwing? Which fence do we throw them over?
Thanks in advance,
— j/k
I’d bet on 2 – the neighbor kids are tossing toys over the fence. Collect ’em up in a basket, go next door and introduce yourself!
the children haven’t yet learned the ways of passive neighbor avoidance and are desperate for social connections, thus they are willing to sacrifice their precious toys in an effort to draw your attention.
Oh, jeez… Stephen is probably right. The adult thing to do is open a dialogue and negotiate an end to this before things get out of hand. Josh, are you saying the children need to be rescued?
we lived there prior-let me know if “it’s mine” is labeled on any star wars or hot wheels booty. It’s strange (‘normal’ though)to have a backyard adjacent to two houses & never see people-wait until the sun is shining or when your little one starts throwing stuff over!!
