A most excellent selection. I am excited to see what he puts together. We won't be stuck looking at artfully-arranged, metal scuptured spawning salmon representing death for life, transformation, and travel, that's for sure. |

The one and only time I went into the Quizno's off Broadway their toasting oven was broken. I left and made a grilled cheese sammie at home instead. Laziness thwarted by broken toaster. |

very interesting statistic
| Interesting statistic you shared: $45 vs. $13 staying local when buying local. Thanks for calling it out. It reinforces buying local isn't just about karma and what is good for a specific local shop owner, but that it ripples out to other local businesses as well. | |

He's a character
You are talking about Boe Odissey! Lots of people refer to him as "the scarf dancer." I met him last year at the CHS blog holiday potluck and he's not nearly as "out there" as I had assumed he would be. (Another ass-u-me lesson for me.) You can also find his name on a street sign: he adopted a stretch of 15th just north of Pine as part of the city's Adopt A Street program. |

Thank you so much for the alert and the link to complete the survey. I definitely have an opinion on this topic and appreciate CHS getting the word out so that we can tell Metro what a lousy idea this is. Diesel is so pedestrian-unfriendly. Stinky clouds of exhaust. Loud acceleration. Boo. |

Intrigued. Know anything more? Wonder if that is what I saw in the window of Spike Mafford a whle back. There was a collection of small items and hand written sign saying something about the smallest thrift shop. When I went back a few days later it was gone and the window was back to normal. |

I added a few pics to the CHS Flickr group. Too busy meeting neighbors at the Blitz Capitol Hill Arts Walk table to take very many pictures. Thanks to all who stopped by to pick up a map for the Arts Walk and get a sheet of wrapping paper designed by Ellen Forney. Nice to meet so many hill neighbors! |

More new venues this month, and an address correction for Catalyst
Catalyst is located on East Olive, next to Cal Anderson Park Other new venues joining the art walk this month include Speckprint, Zhivago’s Café, and Roy Street Coffee and Tea (all on Broadway), and Sweatbox Yoga and zero plus architects (on E Pike and E Pine, respectively). I'm looking forward to Roy Street Coffee and Tea hosting a reading from Book It Theater -- not only tonight, but as a regular feature for the monthly Blitz Capitol Hill art walk. |

Maybe this write up will scare up some interested buyers, yes? I'd like to see any and all of these hill businesses sell and stay open rather than close up. Re: cozy neighborhood - I suspect not in SLU, since the ad says Capitol Hill. SLU would be a bit of a stretch. Re: exposed brick - Julia's? it's possible. I think the "year built" in these ads can be in reference to the interior and infrastructure (wiring, etc) only, but I'm not entirely sure about that. The PbElemental tweet was suggesting the space next to Po' Dog on Union rather than an existing business. That's an interesting spot, but heck it would require a full build out to get it off the ground and open. The grocery store looks like a good deal, but I don't think I'm cut out for that line of work. |

RE: All of Volunteer Park was once a cemetery

How very interesting about Volunteer Park! I find it amusing and cliche-but-it-is-real that there are a murder of crows living in the stand of trees between Volunteer Park and the cemetery. It makes the cemetery a micro-stock photographer's dream setting, right? Kinda cool that 6 Feet Under used the setting for the show's opening credits. |

curious crawl space
I'm sorry to see any art space on the hill close down. This has been a puzzling gallery. They didn't seem to have much in the way of PR. I was only able to make it there once in the last 8 mos due to the difficult hours, and it was an intern/gallery sitter there at the time and not really informative or talkative about the works, the artists, the gallery, etc. The first time I went I wasn't at all sure it was actually open to the public due to the imposing facade ( 6ft wood fence with a gate, no hours posted). It felt like I was entering a private residence. I hope the property owner will continue to offer the building for artist-friendly terms and not tear it down to build a tanning salon or some other such unneeded nonsense. |

So why is the space gated and locked anyway? As MwC points out, if left open the space would find it's populist use. Acessibility would result in use which is a true reflection of the neighborhood; any use would inherently be an organic growth of the neighborhood energy. Ok, I'm admittedly off of in Wonderland. More social
Sounds like the remodel will make 22 Doors a more socially-oriented space - a better fit for Hill fauna. With the booths gone, we'll see better access to their rotating art. They've had interesting shows but it was always hard to look at the pieces closely. You ended up standing at someone else's booth. Awkward! Maybe after the remodel 22 Doors will join the Blitz Capitol Hill Arts Walk. (Hint.) |

Art & Copy

Yay for Art & Copy! I saw this film when it was screened during SIFF. Kudos to Doug Pray & Co for highlighting women who were influencial even during the Don Draper/Mad Men days of advertising. (And still a male dominated business.) I'm friends with one of the producers. After the SIFF screening he mentioned they were going to recut/reedit a few things for the next round of screenings. I'm looking forward to seeing the next iteration of A&C. |

I was there for chapter 2 (the return)
I happened to go to The Lookout between visit #1 and visit #2. Here's my first person take: There was a weird vibe when I arrived. Dude #1 was loitering on the property edge trying to look casual and failing. He was closely watching Dude #2, who went inside ahead of me. Bartender #1 was straightfaced when serving my wine and watching Bartender #2. Bartender #2 was chatting with sitting Dude #2. Sitting Dude #2 goes in and out the bathroom 2x while my wine is being poured and paid for. Clearly there was some history or tension between the Dudes and the Bartenders. I didn't like the vibe going on inside, so I sat on the patio. Could have been nothing, could have been something -- in any event, not my business, right? I sippy, sippy, sipped the wine, and eventually a cop comes out to the back for a half a minute with Bartender #1 to get something from an outside cupboard. As I leave 10 minutes later, I ask the bartenders what's up and get the gun-left-in-the-bathroom-then-dude-returns-to-look-for-it sequence of events. The two dudes were being searched and back-seated as I left. In retelling this story later, my friends and I speculated all kinds of scenarios for how a gun would be left in a bathroom. Gun pass-off gone wrong? Robbers who chickened out? Forgetful and potentially future Darwin Award winners? Interestingly, leaving guns in bathrooms isn't such a rare occurrence. Several law enforcement professionals have done so. |

I bought quite a few christmas gifts here this last year. It's a messy, old, creaky place with illogical organization. Perfect, I say. Besides the classic used book store atmosphere (pre half-price books), I also appreciate the store covering every hardback in a see-through book jacket to protect the cover. It will be missed on 15th. |

A cover?

Anyone else watch Weeds? I just started the series (yay for the public library!), so of course I instantly goes there: perhaps it's a cover business for something that is less legal than coffee and tea. Life imitating art? Speculation sure can be entertaining. Or perhaps he really is just a grumpy man who would rather be doing something else. |

HTFC address

| The HTFC puts on all-ages music shows in a DIY fashion so they don't freely publish the address and thus avoid too much attention. You'll need to email or call HTFC for the location. Here's a hint: it's near the Wildrose intersection on Pike. (Or, if I know you, I'll tell you. :P ) | |

Good question!
I'm in search of good teriyaki too, as I'm not particularly impressed by T Madness. I was spoiled by Yummy Teriyaki in Redmond and keep hoping to find someplace equivalent here. I ventured into Mad Valley and tried Teriyaki Seven (so-so teriyaki, on't get the tempura) and Teriyaki Bowl (better gyoza, better sauce, but not uber-cravable). If I had only the three to choose from, I'd pick T Bowl. I wish Yummy Teriyaki would open a spot in our neighborhood. I too would like the hear of some other good choices on the hill. |

sharrows are better than nothing
As a driver, I appreciate the sharrows as a reminder the street is a popular bikeway. As a bike rider, I ride where the pavement is safe to do so -- which sometimes means where the right tires of car typically travel. There are only a couple of spots where I'm compelled do so: 10th Ave being one of them. I agree with final answer: 10th is treacherous ride in spots! Sharrows: better than nothing, but not the final answer. [wink] |

Another one: building next to Neumos
| I went to the Home Alive space last week for a yoga class and recognized the tell-tale sign of a former auto warehouse or service building. Behind the garage door is a wide, solidly-built, wood-plank ramp leading up to the second floor (also wood-planked and with a high ceiling). Wide as in 1.5 times the average car width size. Home Alive is located on the 2nd floor of the building immediately south of Neumos (10th and Pike). | |

I lived in the midwest for a couple of years and went so far as to call their distributor in Oregon (I think) to find out if they sold it any where in the Twin Cities. (No. General Mills had that market all locked up.) Locally, Fred Meyer used to carry it but I hadn't been able to find it in ages and quite honestly gave up looking. That's the only explanation I can offer of why the only store in Seattle which sold it is located 6 blocks away and I *never knew.* And now it is too late. (Sniff.) |

On my calendar and looking forward to it. I'd like to see Bowie again! Oh, and his parents, too I guess. (pssst: I might bring a book or four.) |

| Does the police department actually use 35 MM film to photograph victim injuries? (Ref bottom of page 2, General Remarks) | |

"Pike Pine" is across the street from where I live. I may self-identify with that 'hood if "Institution Belt" sticks. I like Cal Anderson for a 'hood name. "I-5 Shores" is a stroke of brilliance. I'm on a personal mission to work it into common vernacular. It's that good! |
