As an architect of affordable housing, I agree that the highrise for subsidized housing is a horrible idea for many reasons and thankfully they are not being built anymore because most everyone agrees. I do have to take issue with your "fragile population" choice of words. Characterizing poor people as "fragile" is so condescending! And I also take issue with your analogy of this suicide with someone dying because of the World Trade Center attacks. Seriously? You think people jumping off the World Trade Center is the same as suicide? |

great drinks at both ends of the spectrum
| I really respect a place that has $4 wells for a 2 hour happy hour at a reasonable hour AND has a bartender who makes a truly perfect Sazerac with actual absinthe. Also, a great variety of seating: two-tops, booths, nice long bar. | |

| You have GOT to be kidding me. Whether this lawsuit is right, wrong, smart, whatever, Jack Mackie does NOT bring shame on the Hill. Have you seen the dance steps at CHHIP's Broadway Crossing? This guy gives back to the community CONSTANTLY. | |

Pedestrian Advisory Board

I am on the Pedestrian Advisory Board and will try to schedule a meeting with ST and SDOT about near-term and long-term pedestrian safety at the station. I'll keep everyone posted. Our job is to review SDOT projects and provide feedback. Our meetings are always open to the public: City Hall from 6-8pm on the second Wednesday of the month. |

sure, that's all well and good if you've HEARD of Capitol Hill Housing...
...but a big part of this fundraiser and the Izilla fundraiser is to help make people aware of CHH. Hipsters from Ballard who wander in to Oddfellows for a drink tonight will learn about CHH, and may give when they get home. Izilla attracts parents from all over the city...maybe they don't know how hard it is for families to find affordable housing on the Hill, and what CHH is doing to provide it. Capitol Hill Housing has only recently been able to do private fundraising. (They used to function solely as a PDA). They are already excellent at these sort of community partnerships. |

I disagree. (and so wish you'd do away with the constant condescension, Mw/C. It blocks the view of your argument) Monsoon, Kingfish, Via Tribunali, Poppy, Aoki, Thomas Street Bistro, Vios, Smith, Pho Cyclo... That handful of restaurants DOES make up for 150 "ordinary ones". |

Make on-street parking match the market
| There is a garage on Pike, above where University Honda was, that charges $137 a month for parking. The on-street cost better be closer to that number than to $40 a month in order to make it market-priced parking as Professor Shoup describes. | |

Clairification
| While the parking issues are supposed to be discussed during the SEPA process, there aren't any community meetings for SEPA. Also, my comment about the parking during the meeting has more to do with how that space is DESIGNED than the number of stalls. I will follow up with Lisa Rutzick on this issue. | |

2nd EDG still needs three options on SOMETHING
Very frustrating to see a complete lack of options on this project. Basically the Applicant is saying (to the Board and to the neighbors), "Thanks, but we don't need your input." The Design Review Board still expects to weigh in on options for SOME aspect of the building at a second EDG, if not the massing. This packet looks like a Recommendation meeting packet, just without the colors. They were asked to come back for a second GUIDANCE meeting for a reason. I cannot believe they are not keeping the old building completely commercial after the feedback at the last meeting, but I guess that is what happens if you switch architects mid-stream. Real shame that this is the first project that might take advantage of the preservation height bonus. |

Very important to attend!
| EDG (Early Design Guidance) is the best chance to direct the outcome of this project. This project is so important because it's the first to take advantage of the new legislation and because of its prominent location. The Design Review Board needs to see us all invested in this process and the developer and architect need to hear our concerns. Critical mass is essential! | |

both times, honestly, I got bored. The questions are boring. They feel like a way to praise or vent, but not enough questions that help you think about things in new ways. i'll try again, but then that's IT! Also, I did not attend the plan update meeting because the armory is a stupid place to get to without a car. |

Because this meeting is Early Design Guidance, not Design Review, which means we have a lot of opportunity to influence the process. (also the pdf linked to this meeting on the Design review page is for entirely different Brad Khouri project up near volunteer park) The architect for this project is GGLO. |

My excuse: I was moving this weekend
an apology and two thanks 1. To the biker in the orange shirt I cut off on 12th between Pike and Union on Friday afternoon, I am so sorry. I didn't look long enough to see you and I am sorry I scared you. 2. To the woman at Victrola on Sunday who returned the purse when we left it on the chair, basically all day. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. 3. To the finance professor from SU who helped me walk one bicycle home while I pushed the other, I'm not sure what I was thinking trying to get two bikes home at once, but you really saved the day. |

Taco yes, burrito no
I have had great tacos here, and I love that we finally have something resembling cheap non-chain street food on that end of the hill. But the burritos, BOTH TIMES, were horrible. They have no butts. A burrito has to have a butt end, and a non-butt end. And this was a loosely wrapped, not even that great, soggy lump. |

I thought it was an interesting meeting
| There was a stark divide between the neighborhood folks who WERE included on the panel and those who spoke at the end. I was very glad to hear that surface parking lots will receive the same incentives as old buildings. that should keep developers from assembling mass parking lots for giant buildings. | |

Not opening in the Castro, opening inthe MISSION, big difference!
The American Apparel is being protested for trying to open in the MISSION not the CASTRO. The Castro long ago succumbed to nothing but chains. It is Gay EPCOT. The Mission has an incredible history of resisting chains. I wish I could come up with a good Seattle analogy to make this difference more clear, but Seattle doesn't *have* a neighborhood as ridiculously pandering as the Castro, nor as amazingly independent as the Mission. |

| Meng Strazzara does nice work: John Court at 15th and John is theirs and detailed beautifully. Generally I like their projects better than their renderings and I bet this Broadway project will turn out well. | |

Thanks, Capitol Hill Seattle!
| This post saved me a long wait for the 10 (which as Audrey pointed out, METRO claimed was running) and might have saved me from missing a flight! | |

| Your graphic is really cool, but I gotta take issue with the #60 being "maybe tomorrow". The #60, a bus I had never taken before, saved my tail over and over Christmas week. Usually it was running ON TIME. | |

To avoid 3rd and Pike...
| We have a habit of taking the 194 to the end of the route and then taking a taxi home to the Hill from there. Doesn't help with the bag schlepping issue, but it makes for a nice, fast, relatively inexpensive trip home. | |

Go to La Carta during the week to avoid eastsiders
it's much more chill on a tuesday, wednesday, or even thursday if you are early enough. I also like Tenoch on Washington between pioneer square and the ID. |
