How Seattle can dramatically increase building new sidewalks and fund the recommendations of the Bicycle Master Plan and the Pedestrian Master Plan. There are over 500 miles of roads in Seattle without sidewalks. The City needs to start providing them so citizens can better access transit stops, schools and local business districts. I am proposing that $43 million be directed toward this objective and other work identified in the Bicycle Master Plan and the Pedestrian Master Plans. The funds would come from shifting the proposed $200 million two-way Mercer Project with six traffic lanes and 2 parking lanes to a far less costly, previously adopted solution. |
