New breakfast joints popping up on Hill: JuiceBox+La Bete, Biscuits+Sun, Ba Bar+your ‘subconscious’

Capitol Hill isn’t a bad place to wake up. Soon, you’ll have even more nice ways to start your days. And, yes, you can also have juice for lunch.

  • Mobile urban juicery JuiceBox is about to squeeze into a new, more permanent home that will give it an affordable start on brick-and-mortar dreams and make for a more efficient business landscape for Bellevue Ave’s La Bete.

“It is an enormous amount of savings for a start-up and a bit less risky than signing a 5 year lease right now,” JuiceBox’s Kari Brunson tells CHS about her juice operation popping up in the restaurant space by day starting next week.

Brunson and Brandin Myett still plan on creating a permanent home for their operation. “That is the ultimate goal (probably in early summer 2013), but we just want to make sure that west Capitol Hill is the neighborhood that suits us. and, we think it is!”

Starting thursday november 8, 2012 mobile juice bar, JuiceBox, will become brick and mortar, almost. Kari Brunson and Brandin Myett, the founders of JuiceBox, will be creating freshly pressed fruit and vegetable juices four days a week inside La Bete restaurant. You can find them Thursdays and Fridays from 7am-1pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-3pm where they will be offering their menu in conjunction with the recently announced return of La Bete brunch. La Bete is located at 1802 bellevue avenue on capitol hill (behind Crumble and Flake).

JuiceBox will offer an expanded menu, featuring daily specials, available to go or enjoyed at La Bete.

For the winter, their menu will feature:

Freshly pressed juices 14-16 oz. ($6-$10):  tropical green (kale, pineapple, blood orange), ALG (apple, lemon, ginger), GRN (kale, spinach, celery, fennel, apple, lemon), julius (carrot, orange, fresh turmeric), ABCG (apple, beet, carrot, ginger), pineapple cucumber (cucumber, pineapple, lime, coconut water, and aloe vera), and C-PAL (celery, parsley, apple, lemon).

Blended beverages 16 oz. ($7): chocolate mint (banana, coconut milk, cocoa nib, and mint ); almond date (almond, date, flax, juicebox almond milk, sea salt); sweet green (kale, blueberry, juicebox almond milk, cinnamon)

Extras: liquid vitamins, kale shots, ginger shots, and 16 oz. bottled aloe water and lemon cayenne water.

And introducing juice elixirs! steamed asian pear lemon ginger or spiced cranberry plum beet for those Seattle winter mornings.

La Bete will also be a pick-up location for JuiceBox’s newly launched cold-pressed juice cleanse program that debuted last month. http://www.juiceboxseattle.com/cleanse/

You can hang with Kari and Brandin at the bar or take your juice to go.  See you thursday november 8!

Brunson said the deal will put La Bete’s space at Bellevue and E Howell to work around the clock. “We have a business to business agreement with La Bete,” Brunson says. “There will be no build out, as we are just a ‘shop-in-shop’ at the La Bete bar in the mornings when they are not open for business. it is a great way to utilize prime real estate when the restaurant is dark.”

She also invites the neighborhood’s laptop brigade to join her for a juice — and maybe a treat from seating-less Crumble & Flake. “We will have wi-fi and you can work at the La Bete bar after you get your pastry at Crumble & Flake,” she writes. “The juice will offset the butter.”

  • Another breakfast pop-up is slated to begin on Capitol Hill this weekend. The Seattle Biscuit Company folks are teaming up with E Pike’s Sun Liquor Distillery:

if you really need our biscuits on Saturday, go to Sun Liquor on Cap. Hill! We’ve partnered with them on their brand new brunch, and you can find our baked goodness there.

Sun’s Andrea Chapman fills us in on the details:

We are launching this weekend, and will continue to offer brunch on Saturdays & Sundays 11am-3pm. Erik came up with a new brunch cocktail menu with brunch classics like bloody mary’s and fresh squeezed juice mimosas and new offerings like the Song Bird (Byrrh French aperitif w/ in-house made orange bitters & soda). Our food menu will start smaller and play on classic diner offerings like a fried egg sandwich, french toast and biscuits & gravy. We are getting our biscuits from the Seattle Biscuit Company and are thrilled to be partnered with them, their biscuits are delicious! We will continue to grow the menu and are excited to serve our delicious cocktails during the day!

Seattle Met has more on the new Sun brunch, 11a-4p. The distillery is located at 514 E Pike.

  • 550 12th Ave’s Ba Bar has also rolled out a new breakfast menu served Wednesdays through Sunday. Ba Bar’s Eric Banh tells CHS the Vietnamese street food-inspired restaurant is digging in with a very American breakfast menu.

“Breakfast is about convenience and subconscious,” Banh said. “It doesn’t matter how creative you are. I want to do something that I eat in the morning.”

Rather, make that a North American breakfast menu. Banh says the breakfast poutine is straight out of his time spent in lovely Alberta, Canada. You’ll also find standards from pancakes to sausage hash to go along with some more Ba Bar-ian fare like congee and noodles.

You can check out CHS advertiser Ba Bar’s breakfast offerings here.
