Your weekend Capitol Hill traffic, street closure and detour update

There are enough detours on and around Capitol Hill this weekend to warrant a post. This, dear reader, is that post.

  • Weekend Detour on Pike at Broadway, Sept. 22 – 24

Beginning Saturday, Sept. 22 traffic on Pike Street will be detoured at Broadway to facilitate construction of the First Hill Streetcar.  This detour will begin at 5 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 and continue until Monday, Sept. 24 at 5 a.m. Traffic will be maintained on Broadway but no left turns will be allowed at Pike Street.  East and west traffic on Pike will be required to turn right at Broadway.  Local access, pedestrian access, and access to businesses will be maintained during this work. 


Traffic management for this event has been coordinated with the Seattle AIDS Walk and 5K Run which will also take place on Capitol Hill streets this weekend.

On Saturday, September 22 from approximately 9:00 AM until about 2:00 PM, Metro bus routes , and will be rerouted in the Capitol Hill area, due to street closures and traffic congestion associated with the .

Riding transit is a great way to get to and from this event; all buses that serve Capitol Hill, including ones that are rerouted, go to within walking distance of the venue.

  • 520 closure, 11 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21 to 5 a.m., Monday, Sept. 24

When crews close the highway, they close both directions of the SR 520 floating bridge and highway and all ramps between Montlake Boulevard and I-405.  more…

  • Broadway closed between Madison and Marion nights of Sept. 24th – Oct. 5th

Beginning Monday, September 24th and continuing nightly until Friday, October 5th, Broadway between Madison and Marion streets will be closed, or reduced to one lane with flaggers facilitating two-way traffic, to aid construction of the First Hill Streetcar.  This work has been rescheduled from its original start date this week. Full closures are anticipated during the first five nights. When fully closed, detours will be posted using Madison Street, Boren Street, and James Street for southbound traffic, and James Street, 12th Avenue and Madison Street for northbound traffic.  Work will begin each night at 8 p.m. and continue until 6 a.m. the next morning.

Local access, pedestrian access, and access to businesses will be maintained during this work.
