Right, right, we know — Occupy Seattle is a big, serious deal. But there’s always room for pie. Or cake. Or Cake vs. Pie. Monday night, 11th Ave’s Vermillion hosts judging for the 2011 showdown. No, we don’t really get it either but sounds like you’ll get to eat something and we’re told you should bring your plate and fork. Seriously. Times are tough. Oh, and go Pie!
More than two dozen bakers across Seattle are tweaking their recipes and ‘mitting up’ for the biggest baking showdown this city has ever seen – Jenise Silva’s Cake vs. Pie: The Ultimate Rematch. The action goes down this coming Monday, October 10 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Vermillion in Capitol Hill. The bakers will be going head to head – cake vs. pie – and at the end of the night one baked good will stand victorious and hopefully put the age old debate to rest: which is better, cake or pie?
The bakers will be competing for not only bragging rights but also for more than a baker’s dozen worth of fabulous prizes from Bob’s Red Mill, Metropolitan Grill, Oddfellows Cafe, The Pink Door, Methia Gordon, Grumpy Pie, Kate Lebo, Bella Cupcake Couture, Joey Veltkamp, Dawn Cerny, Diem Chau and Rosalie Bahmer.
The enviable, yet difficult, task of judging this year’s batch of hopefuls falls on a group of rock stars in the baking field including Chef Neil Robertson (Canlis ,Mistral), Chef Carrie Mashaney (Café Juanita, Spinasse), Kate McDermott (Art of the Pie) and Cody Ellerd Bay (Seattle Magazine).
About Cake vs. PieCake vs. Pie, created and produced by Jenise Silva, sets out to settle the age old debate…cake or pie? Last year 24 bakers competed for the top honor in front of a crowd which overflowed out onto the city sidewalks. In 2010 Pie was crowned champ and will be back to defend its title.
