Capitol Hill food+drink | Kafe Berlin comes to First Hill, Ballet update, Ba Bar happy hour

Got a tip? [email protected]

  • Kafe Berlin is coming to First Hill. The historic German Heritage Society building on 9th Ave just north of James will be the home of a German cafe, currently under construction. The Society’s permit calls for a $25,000 construction project to change the first floor space of the building from an office to a restaurant. Also, the Society does not return phone calls or emails. Ever. But we still think the coming soon cafe will be fun!
  • CHS has been very busy on the food+drink beat this week. So much news including this morning’s write-up on the Neighbours restaurant that isn’t
  • Also, The Buck is gone and Montana is taking over its place
  • And Rosebud is closed and looking for a new Pike/Pine home
  • While Travelers faces financial struggles
  • And Kingfish adds a happy hour to drum up early evening business
  • Robert is at The Bar. OOPS: No he’s not. See comment below!

  • Ba Bar rolls out its happy hour
  • Poppy’s loss is Chino’s gain
  • A moving moment with the victor of this weekend’s CoffeeFest latte art competition
  • Boston Globe likes Bar Ferd’nand
  • Ballet staff will tell you their building owner is letting the restaurant “go month to month” until it finds a new home — or a new tenant moves in.
  • Five Fish Bistro’s application to begin construction of their new fish and chips restaurant inside the current Broadway UPS store has been approved.
  • It’s almost Oola Distillery time. Their gin is available from state liquor stores, on the shelves of finer area drinking establishments and it’s almost time for an open house:

Hello all Oola Facebook Fans. We would like to invite you all to join us at Oola Distillery on Thursday, October 6th from 5pm to 8pm for our official open house. You will be able to sample our newly released Vodka and Gin as well as take a peak around the tasting room and distillery. In addition, you will be some of the first to be able to purchase a bottle to take home. So please join us at Oola Distillery on Thursday, October 6th from 5pm to 8pm. Thanks all.

  • Sun Liquor Distillery is ready to do business, too.
  • Press agent for High Five and Fuel Coffee’s Dani Cone says Cone “has been invited to take the stage with Martha Stewart on her TV show live, Monday, October 3.  She will be preparing her ‘Cutie Pies’ in conjunction with the release of her new cookbook.”
  • Sunday night BarCraft, nerd?
  • Campus food at Seattle U is so tasty they’ve inviting media to try it out on Tuesday. “The campus food at SU recently topped the Sierra Club’s Cool Schools Survey for having the most environmentally friendly food, and placed in The Daily Beast’s top 20 for all-around best food.”
  • Terra Plata has been saying September. That ends this week, right? Maybe TP will also be an October baby like Altura, Bako and Momiji.

I was soooo excited by the prospect of being served by Robert at The Bar, but my boyfriend pointed out that an update to the Slog post states that Robert isn’t working there, after all.

So sad. I really miss him!

Oh, missed that one! The “Where’s Robert?” thing had become quite a mini-meme. Glad it can continue!

I’ve yet to read one positive thing about high five’s pie and she has the gall to write a cookbook? And now Martha Stewart? Style over substance wins again.

I thought the same thing .. I’ve had more than a few mediocre experiences … she must have an awesome PR team
