With the opening of its first “inland” store, Taylor Shellfish is throwing a big party Thursday at Melrose Market.
Details on the event including music, author appearances and, yes, barbecue oysters are below — as are pictures from CHS’s visit to the Melrose shop from earlier this week as curious shoppers wandered through and a well-dressed man sat down to a lunch of fresh oysters on the half shell.
The Taylor retail store fills the space in the Melrose Market development vacated when fashion boutique Velouria called it quits on the Hill. Neighboring retailer Sonic Boom has since said it, too, will be leaving Melrose at the end of summer. CHS also reported on another new mystery project destined for the market.
Here are the details on the Taylor Shellfish grand opening party and more pictures from our recent visit.

Hells and yes!
I will be getting a lot of clams and mussels. Maybe the occasional but of oysters. I am glad to have fresh seafood on the Hill.
The only thing, if seafood is this expensive here (and this is still pretty decent pricing, right?), next to the sea, I would hate to see the costs in the Midwest.
Was there this afternoon and tried the BBQ oysters outside. They rocked–as did the curried mussels. I’ll definitely be trying my hand at some oysters on the grill.
BTW…they also sell ready-to-eat bowls of oyster stew and geoduck chowder. Tried the oyster stew yesterday… amazing. Two thumbs up.
(sorry about the rotated pic– click on “original” and it should display correctly)
I attended the Grand Opening yesterday it was awesome! Their prices are great and the coolest thing is even in the middle of the event they were able to show me how to properly shuck an oyster. I bought a dozen and went home to try it out and it works perfect! Welcome to the neighborhood.
I will go here often. They did a great job with their opening and I went home with some great muscles for dinner too.
