Capitol Hill Block Party 2011: Day One Open Thread

Love it or loathe it, the Capitol Hill Block Party is a force to be reckoned with. E Pike is transformed into an urban music fest fantasy. With Honey Buckets. We’ll pop up this open thread for notes from the day. At an event that is all about the music, don’t be surprised if we’re a little more interested in the people and the places. See something or want to share? Send a note to [email protected] or say hey via Twitter @jseattle. We’ll be watching for #chbp tweets, too. Below, pictures, updates, schedule, a map and more.

  • Friday’s gate time is 3p. Last year, long lines caused a few issues with local businesses. If you are in the queue, help your fellow man and woman be good citizens. And somebody buy a Ferrari, please.
  • Full Friday schedule, below.
  • http://capitolhillblockparty.com/ is reportedly getting hit had by web traffic as people look for info.
  • The Stranger has its 2011 guide up including the handy festival map:
  • There are quite a few stores, restaurants, bars, etc. offering deals and discounts around the Block Party grounds. Here’s the roster of stuff we’ve heard about.

Seattle Times is streaming some pre-show action here. Here’s a picture from @andrewmatson of Craft Spells getting ready to perform.

Thanks. The official CHBP website has been crashing last night, and again today (why are they running it on WordPress??), so CHS was the best way to get the schedule online.
RE: Lobby Bar was concerned about slow business? That’s funny, cause they had a $5 cover, and later I saw that crossed out and replaced with $10. So either they had way more business than they could handle, or they didn’t really want a lot of business.
