Lady laptop burglar nabbed trying to make a run for it in north Capitol Hill

A 19-year-old woman was taken into custody Monday morning after she attempted to ditch a stolen laptop while trying to flee the backyard of a home on 12th Ave E north of Volunteer Park.

According to the SPD report on the incident, the woman was spotted by a resident in the yard of a home in the 2000 block of 12th Ave E around 10:30 AM. As officers arrived, the woman ran for an alley where officers took her into custody. The laptop she dropped had been stolen earlier in the morning from a nearby home. The resident was able to positively identify the woman as the person seen in the yard.

SPD says the suspect admitted to officers that she had entered that house and stolen the laptop from inside the house, as well as some other unidentified items. SPD says the victim was contacted and identified the stolen property as hers but couldn’t remember if she left her home unlocked.

The 19-year-old female was interviewed by burglary detectives before being booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary.

Capitol Hill has seen a recent uptick in burglaries including this recent spate also near Volunteer Park.
