The Board of Directors of the Capitol Hill Alano Club have been getting dirty trying to recover what they can after a fire March 22. The fire appears to be arson, and the building was also burgled. The sprinkler system went off, which helped firefighters put the flames out quickly. However, things are not pretty inside, according to a post on the CHAC website:
Well, folks, it’s not pretty. The fire was on the second floor and our sprinkler system discharged. In addition to the fire damage, there was extensive smoke and water damage throughout the Club. We are working with the amazing team of experts at ServePro of Central Seattle to get all salvageable items out and begin the cleaning process. We will need to wait until the insurance/contractor/mitigation expert investigations are complete to really know how extensive the damage is.
CHAC provides a welcoming space for 12-step programs of all kinds, with a focus on supporting members of the LGBT community. Many of the recovery groups have found new meeting places while the CHAC building is closed. They are listed on the CHAC site. Many are being hosted at the Dunshee House at 17th Ave E and E Thomas. For anybody who’d like to help out, the site also has information on donations and volunteering.
Anything the SGN can do, let us know. Your efforts to help those in recovery are very important to all of us. Keep on truckin” and yell if you need anything.
