Good morning, snow campers. Welcome to a Capitol Hill starting its day with clear skies, gusting winds, a temperature of 18.8 F degrees and large piles of encouragement from local officials that you stay home, stay off the roads and enjoy the snow day. Have a picture or a tip you want to share? [email protected] or call/txt (206) 399-5959.
- Here is Tuesday night’s update which includes more details on the latest from National Weather Service. Summary: Snow appears to be done but freezing temperatures and wind will continue. Here are the daily forecast details:
Today: Sunny, with a high near 24. North wind 7 to 13 mph becoming east.
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 13. Southeast wind around 6 mph.
Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 30. South wind between 5 and 7 mph.
Wednesday Night: Snow likely after 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 28. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Thanksgiving Day: Snow likely before 10am, then rain likely. Snow level rising to 2300 feet. Cloudy, with a high near 37. South wind between 8 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Thursday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
- The Hill’s roads are snow-covered (view traffic cams). This is a bad time to drive. Experienced snow drivers with adequate vehicles and equipment (ie, not most of us!) will want to consult the city’s strategy for clearing snow and ice:
o Service Level 1 ORANGE – bare and wet from curb to curb
o Service Level 2 BLUE – bare and wet in one lane in each direction
o Service Level 3 GREEN – deicing treatment on curves, hills and stopping zones. - Metro’s morning commute plan is for continuation of snow routes and there are many cancellations:
King County Metro Transit will operate with buses on snow routes and some service cancellations on Tuesday morning, and is urging people to stay home and off the roads if at all possible. Road conditions are dangerously icy, and abandoned vehicles still block roadways. About 14 Metro bus routes have been cancelled this morning due to the travel conditions.A complete list of bus routes that are on snow routing or that have been cancelled is at: www.kingcounty.gov/metro/snow. - Routes 43 and 48: “Metro Routes 43 & 48 are not serving East Capitol Hill or Montlake in either direction due to icy conditions along 24th Av E. Both routes are using the Route 49 routing via 10th Av E and the University Bridge.” UPDATE: These service changes will likely be updated through the day. Make sure to check http://metro.kingcounty.gov/up/rr/adverseweather.html
- Routes 10 and 12: “Metro Routes 10 & 12 are not traveling east of 10th Av E. 15th Av E & 19th Av E are closed due to icy conditions.”
- Sledding accident: Sledding made an excited return to Denny Way overnight but a relatively significant 911 callout to the scene clouded the fun.
- Schools: All public elementary, middle and high schools and major private schools are closed. Seattle University
is open after 10 AMis now closed. Seattle Central is closed. Cornish is closed.

Watching that bus spin down the street was unreal! Wow, what a scary incident. At least that telephone pole he hit didn’t come down!
I texted the accident in yesterday, so it’s interesting to see video of it. I think we were all happy that pole was there ’cause otherwise we would’ve crunched into the corner of the Margan and ruined some people’s days.
Thought I’d let y’all know, Seattle U rescinded its earlier attempt to stay open today – school’s out FOREVER. Well, until next Tuesday!
A good morning!
Does anyone know if mail is being picked up/delivered to our neighborhood today?
I just put a bill out in a security mailbox on 15th (in front of That Shop).
Any word on the status of mail carrier vans and service out this way?
Many thanks,
Daniella
Anybody know what time that was? Around 6 we almost got on a 43 at the top of John there by Safeway, but it didn’t seem to be going anywhere and the driver looked stressed. Yikes.
SEQUINS
My internet’s been down since yesterday evening. Called Comcast and they said it was an area wide outage (I live at 11th & E Pike), but I don’t see any other reports here. Anyone else having connectivity issues?
trying to get a friend from the airport to us (east/north capitol hill). She can take light rail downtown. but then can she take the #12 and get to us? I’m getting contradictory information as to whether it’s on snow route or not running at all?
What about the #10 – if it can get to 15th I can walk up and meet her there.
But depending on what I check the information is hit or miss.
Go with 15th Ave right now
So the #10 is operating from downtown up to capitol hill then across 15th? That’d be great.
Pedro, that would be the bus. We sat up there for a long time, Metro made the executive decision to make that bus go down the hill, and boom, slow crash.
Does anyone recommend a certain route out of Capitol Hill onto 1-5 N? I walked down Pike and it looks like the best alternative but does anyone have additional tips?
My cable has flickered a bit, but no outage here (Broadway and Pike). Good luck!
Don’t think so. Haven’t seen any buses at 15th and Galer since yesterday morning.
Internet is fine, but the cable is definitely out. I’m on Bellevue/Bellevue (close to The Lookout.)
Ours was out yesterday morning until around 1PM. Not sure if it’s related (to yours or the weather) and it fixed itself before the technician arrived.
Try the entrance ramp just north of the Roanoke bridge off of Harvard Ave E going towards Eastlake. The downhill slope going north on Broadway isn’t as steep as some other routes to I-5 Northbound.
Madison is pretty ok once you get past Broadway.
after seeing that video i can see why the 48 i caught from montlake last night took a rogue route around portage bay and up to broadway. brave bus drivers! i can’t imagine following those orders to continue driving. not to mention how late it was by the time they got off their shifts and back home.
My Internet access has been out since last night. Sucks. I’m also on 11th / Pike.
i live at 12th and madison – we have no internet or phone (we don’t have cable TV). It’s been out since like 5pm yesterday. they don’t know when it will be fixed either. a downed cable is the problem apparently. not sending a truck until they can do it safely. call comcast, they’ll credit your account for no service.
The 10 is running on Broadway – we just saw a 10 and asked the driver about 10 minutes ago.
Cable coming and going for us.
I went down Pine to Melrose and onto I5 North about 30 minutes ago, no problem at all. Slow and steady wins the race.
Hi all, happy thanksgiving.
