As you wait out front for a seat at Glo’s during their new operating hours, the only problem might be trying to read the Stranger with only a streetlight to illuminate (for those of you who, you know, still read stuff on paper). Starting as Friday slips into Saturday this Labor Day weekend, the crowded breakfast joint will begin its new midnight to 4 PM weekend hours while continuing to open seven hours later the rest of the week.
Glo’s owners tell Seattle Met foodie writer guy Christopher Werner the new hours are the result of a scuttled attempt to open a second location:
The idea to go late-night came when plans for opening a second location fell through, Reisman said. Hopes for another diner fizzled when it became apparent the capital needed to purchase and subsequently use the Glo’s name just wasn’t there, she elaborated.
With newbies like Homegrown Sandwiches and Big Mario’s expanding Capitol Hill late night (drunk) food options, the Hill’s restaurants appear to be taking this whole nightlife initiative thing rather seriously. Any more of this kind of activity and we’re only a completed mass transit project or two away from becoming a Real(tm) City.
It’s not a bad weekend to kick off this kind of fun. With PAX 2010 underway just down the Hill, there will be even more late night shenanigans than, um, normal this weekend.
Finally! Now maybe I can stop being disgusted with this neighborhoods late night dining options!
The hill is really a fun place to live.
but their food sucks.
MMMM, Glo’s biscuits and gravy…simply the best!
Expanded hours are nice, but expanded dining room would make you more money!!!! I’ve given up on waiting an hour on the outside.
If the waitstaff is pissy and rude in the daylight, what is the service going to look like at 4a.m.?
Glo’s is great-good for them trying to give us all yummy food stuff day and night.
And BTW for the one who said the wait staff is pissy-yeah it was a year or so ago. There are new servers there now and they are fabulous!! So apparently you haven’t been there for quite a while.
That’s really great to hear James! It’s true my friends and I have not been there in over a year. I live close by and really loved their food, but after one particular incident in which a waitress was horrible to my mother I decided the food just wasn’t worth the bad attitude. I’ve always wished I could just drop my tip off directly with the cooks, seriously too much scorn with my pancakes to handle!
I agree about the waitstaff being really stellar – a group of us (8 total) went in on a Saturday morning and were treated fabulously. I can’t wait to be able to get biscuits & gravy at ridiculous hours of the day
Noelle, I too encourage you to give them another try. Went there with a big group early on a Sat morning (hmm suspecting vics & I were there together :D) and our two waiters were excellent.
As for the long wait–yeah, but that’s mark of the place’s popularity and with expanded hours, there will be more opportunities to drop in when it’s not as busy. More space means more tables, more delays for the already slow kitchen, and more work for the staff. Seems unwise to me. Expanded hours seems smart.
