Record Store Day on Saturday means free stuff for Capitol Hill

Saturday is Record Store Day and indie record stores want to give you free stuff.  As the Seattle neighborhood with the highest density of indie record stores (editor’s note: scientific fact!), Capitol Hill will be hopping on Saturday with vinyl heads, music lovers, and collectors of the free and the rare. Visit a neighborhood record store to pick up freebie vinyl, CDs, posters, promo items, etc. courtesy of record labels, artists, and indie record stores.

Record Store Day began three years ago as a national event celebrating the unique culture of independently-owned record stores. Indie and (semi-indie) labels joined up with the indie stores to produce free limited-issue vinyl and CD releases exclusively for Record Store Day. Check out the partial list of 2010 freebies here and here

Of course, not every store will have every free RSD release: you’ll need to go visit the stores to see what they’ve got. Here’s a run down of what’s happening at Capitol Hill’s independent record stores on Saturday:

I don’t believe the vinyl stuff is actually free. I’m pretty sure most of them cost something, somewhere between $5-$15 (and more for some limited edition releases). That’s the price range that the vinyl cost at last years RSD.
