| I picked up a copy of "The Pioneers Of Lake View" by Robert Ferguson at the Museum of History & Indsutry bookshop earlier this summer. It has a map of the cemetery and short biographies of many of the famous settlers buried here. Totally worth the $12.95. | |

This is more medical than a passing comment. Recent reports are that because of lack of sun exposure in the winter, Seattle people do suffer from lack of vitamin D .... and other benefits of sun exposure. We need to take supplements of D in the winter. Interesting, and we tend to stay in front of computers as well ... so when the sun is out ... here we are inside again. |

All of Volunteer Park was once a cemetery

Not sure if you know this but between 1884 to 1887 the entire park was a cemetery. The bodies have since been relocated to other area cemeteries. There's an interesting story about this in History Link: http://www.historylink.org/index.cfm?DisplayPage=output.cfm& By the way, the founder of http://www.HistoryLink.org, the wonderful Walt Crowley who passed away two years ago, asked to be buried at Lake View Cemetery, as near to Doc Maynard's grave as possible. How very interesting about Volunteer Park! I find it amusing and cliche-but-it-is-real that there are a murder of crows living in the stand of trees between Volunteer Park and the cemetery. It makes the cemetery a micro-stock photographer's dream setting, right? Kinda cool that 6 Feet Under used the setting for the show's opening credits. |
