One for all the QFC Bike Parking Haters

I spotted this after grabbing some groceries at the QFC on Broadway. That is a full four bikes parked in a spot that once held only a single car. But wait, what's that just behind the Real Change Guy?....

Oh, thats another five bikes parked on the other racks. So take that all you on-street bike parking haters!

( Note: I still agree that the design of this rack is pretty bad and could be more space efficient, but I'm just correcting the claims of those who said there was already enough bike parking here and that the on-street parking would never get used. )

hate is such a strong word
Confused about why additional bike racks couldn't have been placed on the sidewalk instead (a la your bottom photo). It is such a super wide sidewalk and there is definitely room.

bad space?
Gotta think they could have done better with that street space. Seems worth a CHS call to SDOT (they always answer when they CHS on the ID!)

... to say they are stupid is ....
Planning for bike or scooter parking on sidewalks is so stupidly done - it is astonishing.

A real system of sidewalk bike-scooter parking on Broadway would bring BUSINESS dollars, they call them shoppers. And yes, the sidewalk is immense, tons of space.

Where is the merchant group? Planting flower baskets is just one step, getting people to your door with $$$ in hand is very important.

And the city .... mostly bullshit and zeros.

i agree
i agree, hating on bicycle racks in the street is dumb. bicycle racks in the street makes total sense. which is why i'm disappointed that we don't have any bicycle racks on railroads as well. we need to make a statement, people!

Maybe you're right
I guess I'm one of the "haters," although I must say that word is quite inappropriate towards someone who is simply expressing some thoughtful criticism on an issue.

IF your photos are representative (and that's a BIG "if"), then I stand corrected. Perhaps people are using their bicycles more now, with the summer weather.

A few weeks ago, the posts that "guard" the area were taken down, either by vandalism or maybe purposefully, and only one of these remains in place. This does improve access to the area, and that might be a reason for the increased use.

Haters?
Wait, who hates on-street bike racks? Who are these people? That's like hating trees.
