First a little history on how we got here: Remember when cheesecake showed us his great photoshop skills with a La Rambla-ized Pike St. Well that inspired a lot of thought and discussion and prompted Eric Butler to start the Capitol Hill Streets For People Group on the Seattle Network. This quickly became a hot item on SN and we decided to get a little more personal with some face to face contact. After various mix ups with dates, times, and venues we finally solidified the event: Friday, April 3rd, 7:00-9:00pm at Moe Bar [map].
So what, you ask, will this Kickoff event be? Well, its really up to you. The idea is for anyone interested in making Capitol Hill a better neighborhood for walking, biking, and transit to get together and discuss what some of the priorities are and how we can make sure that they actually happen. It will be similar to the Seattle Great City Initaitive's Streets For People Kickoff, but in a better 'hood and with more booze :)
Although the event will be free form there are a few things that will probably get some real attention. Eric Butler recently met with SDOT to dicuss the design of the First Hill/Capitol Hill streetcar line that should be coming in a few years. He will be giving a brief recap of that meeting and sharing some of his ideas for how to make our streetcar much better than the SLUT. The valiant community orator I mentioned at the TOD Meeting, who's name is Tony Russo, will also be there to talk about Community-oriented TOD. This would be a great venue to work on the next steps toward a permanent Broadway Farmer's Market. Also, I should mention that Allison Shwartz from SDOT will be coming. She is looking for community input on where to put more bike parking, on and off street.
So don't miss this great opportunity! It should be a really great time with lots of inspiring ideas. Word to the wise, Moe Bar's happy hour has been cut short by one hour and now ends at 7:00pm. So get there a littler earlier to secure yourself some $2 wells and beer.
If you are interested in coming, please RSVP over on the Seattle Network. Don't have an account? It's really easy to create one and its a nice place to stay in touch with Seattle's activist community.
