RIP Last Waltz

Last Waltz Boutique is closing its doors (http://splendidred.typepad.com/lastwaltz/)

I’m sad to report that Last Waltz, my favorite vintage/new store on Capitol Hill will soon be closed.  Apparently the owner announced the store’s closing last Saturday but since I’m not on the email list I had no idea until I stopped in there today. I was so excited when I discovered Last Waltz.  It’s like the intimate little love child between Atlas and Anthropologie.  An associate said that the owner is ready to move on, hence the “Please Buy This” prices on just about everything.  I found a new spring skirt marked down from $150 to $30.  It’s bittersweet though.   The 18th and Union location was perfectly tucked away from downtown and just far enough from Broadway to have some character.  I’m especially sad that most of the furniture has already been claimed.  I would’ve gladly hauled that gorgeous blue dresser and shelves the ten blocks back to my apartment.  Sad news and another sign of the times I guess.  I only wish that some of the stores I don’t like would close and we could keep jewels like Last Waltz around.
