Wow. JSeattle beat me to the post about a fire across the street from my house! Jeeze. :) Here are some pics:
Of note: This house has always been a fire hazard. I’m not sure if it was still occupied, as it was slated (like so many other Capitol Hill buildings) to be torn down to become condos. If so, I hope their nice cat is okay.
Is it one of the little houses just east of Summit or is it *that* house on the NE corner of Belmont & Republican?
jseattle’s pic confirmed my question. sad. there was always something interesting or cool hanging on or around that place, at least for the past fifteen years. that garage was a mess though. i remember when they “remodelled” it a while back and was shocked that they weren’t tearing it down.
anyone know the story of the people who lived there? has it always been the same people?
Agreed, that house seems to always have been a fire hazard. I’ve always wanted to know the story behind that place, though — the hollowed out CRTs and other stuff was weird, but interesting.
I’m torn. I guess I’d prefer it over a huge condo building.
From what I’m seeing here, it’s vacated. I never actually saw many people coming/going from the place, although the ‘art’ changed every once in a while.
Wish we had a better way to combine our multiple posts. It’s an interesting challenge.
Anybody have any pictures of the ‘art’? Also, I was told it was empty at the scene by a few people I talked to who said they lived nearby. I’ll confirm with Seattle Fire but let me know if you’ve seen anybody living there lately.
It has not always been a fire hazard you inconsiderate jerks. I lived in that house six months ago. The owner of the house told us he was building condos, so in complete accordance with his interests we moved out with complete cooperation. A few months later the economy hits the housing market and the guy can’t build the condos. Homeless crack addicts move in and Seattle Police do nothing to clear them out.
Now you tell me how long your place would stand with a bunch of people cooking heroin in there six months after you moved out. For a bunch of people that live in capitol hill, you don’t seem to notice the large amount of druggies down the park. Though you sure complained about us a lot, and now your blameing a fire on us too.
Well, here’s some news for you, theres crack heads still in there, and the cops still aren’t doing anything. I hope you enjoy the next fire, and don’t blame me when it happens.

Also the cats fine. All of them went with us when we moved out. Sorry about the anger in the previous post, its just we all have a lot of memories in that house which we lived and took care of. Maybe it wasn’t the ideal home for most people, but we liked it. And to see what a bunch of crack heads did to it, well, its just rips my heart out. I really hoped they would have built the condos, that or another group of artists would have moved in, instead crack heads turn it into a burnt out husk.
When you walk down broadway, and they ask you for money, just remember they probably bought drugs with it, and could cook it up somewhere to accidently set it on fire, and if it were 2 in the morning, it would set an entire block on fire. Imagine if this would have occured at 3 am.
It just makes me sick this happened.
