On Friday Afternoon I saw one of the most disturbing things I'd seen in a while. Walking down 15th I see a woman come out of the bar Liberty and scatter a handful of something on the sidewalk, then go back in to the bar. As I walked past I saw that they were pennies - lots of pennies. OK... As I walked on a man and a woman came past me - possibly homeless, certainly not well off judging by the look of them. I heard something and turned and the two of them were on their knees scrambling to pick up the pennies. It was like a couple of pigeons pecking at breadcrumbs that someone had thrown out for them. But these were PEOPLE... PEOPLE on their KNEES picking up pennies that someone else threw away. What was the woman from Liberty doing? Was this some misguided attempt to help homeless people? Was this some creepy spectator sport laid on for their patrons? Do they do this all the time? I was too creeped out to go back and ask - anyone got any ideas?

But you have reminded me of a kid in my high school who everybody made fun of by throwing nickels and dimes to. He would scramble for the change and everybody would laugh. High school ha has. I like to imagine that kid saved all that change up and bought an island in the pacific somewhere. Doubtful, I know.

unrelated to this- which does indeed sound VERY disturbing if it was what you thought it was- does anyone else find Liberty to be super early 90s? I've only been in once and all the music and the people there (and the posters) were so 90s...in a good way.

	yes, it is time for 90s nostalgia. Class of 92. Break out your Just Say Yes compilation CDs. I like Liberty because it's simple. They've tried a few alternative streams of business but you don't hear too much about their coffee or their sushi. It's basically a bar and people see whatever they want in it. Maybe strange, signature things happen there late at night (I wouldn't know) but Liberty seems to be mostly what you make it.
