What would you open on 15th? Summer 2008 edition

Moving our old posts over to the new site has gone pretty well except for one irritating issue -- we haven't imported all the comments yet. So this cool oldie post about what you would open on 15th Ave is missing the best part -- your comments. We'll get that fixed eventually -- but the concept needs a refresh anyhow.

So, with the Starbucks body still warm but the spirit departed, what would you open on 15th Ave?

I'm not sure what I want yet but I've decided nothing obvious like another coffee shop, restaurant, bar or ice cream shop. Yes, I said no to ice cream. And, please, no Taco Del Mars.

Theres only one thing of course... byKaty2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I would pay cash money to play in a giant ball pit for adults that wasn't full of pee!
art shop bymenelaus2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A really tiny art supplies shop that rented big easels and gave lessons so I could improve upon my horrid skills.
laundromat bypete2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A laundromat would be nice; 12th Ave Laundry is too far too walk with 30 lbs of clothes. Also, something like Pike Street Beer would be cool.
RE: laundromat byEdward Hoopoe2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
The video store across the street used to be a laundromat.
Yarn store byfinal answer2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
If there was a small shop chock full of yarn (and maybe a couch or two for some stitch'n'bitch), I would never leave.
RE: Yarn store byWesa2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
I like this idea.
RE: Yarn store bymahz2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
Or maybe a yarn/bagel store.

wishin for fishin byjseattle2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
nice -- the key is to go selfish and not worry about (in most cases) probable financial success. Pee-less ball pit, I raise you a fly fishing shop with a nice old man running it who tells me about all of his secret Puget Sound honey spots.

A dessert oasis. Because we're not fat enough. Or bring back a reduced-calorie (sticking with the dessert theme) City People's (of the hardware store variety). The place on 12th is great but it's a little hit and miss about its hours.
Dessert! byjcricket2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
There's a dessert place in San Diego called Extraordinary Desserts that we have _nothing_ like here. http://www.extraordinarydesserts.com/

They need to open a Seattle outpost so I can go into a chocolate coma whenever I want. The 6 block walk back/forth will surely burn off the calories, no?
sandwiches! byjoey2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
We can use a nice, deli-style mom and pop sandwich shop in my opinion.
what we really need byseandr2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
- Orange Julius
- Hip Hop nightclub
- Mini mart that sells cheap malt liquor
- Truck stop
I know! bydreamingviola2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A Taco Bell would sure make my teenager happy! So that would be her vote! I would vote for a really nice pet store so I don't have to drive to get my organic cat food or my hamster food.

A craft store that sells yarn and knitting needles and things of that sort, and a real hardware store!!

Gourmet Deli and Market
Third the deli & market bypffft2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A little speciality foods deli that has really good sandwiches and deli-style salads, a nice selection of cheeses, olives, etc. Maybe a little ice-cream case. Yeah - I said it - ice cream. Wanna fide aboudit?

Or a little hardware store.

Or a place that just specializes in really good soups and salads.
Or... bypffft2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A tiney Laser Tag or Paintball arena.
Or... bypffft2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A Chinese restaurant that's actually good. I'm so sick of Thai already.
Where do you live? bypffft2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Mud Bay should be pretty close to almost anyone in Cap Hill unless you're way north or northeast.
That last comment... bypffft2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
was supposed to be a reply to the pet-food comment
Or... bypffft2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A hobby store. I miss me some Estes model rockets.

J - if you haven't noticed, I'm just trying to artificially inflate your comment count...
RE: Or... bysportracer-52 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
Izilla carries Estes, just saw them there tonight.

+1 on the hobby shop. One that carries a good range of RC car/truck. Any brand will do, but bonus points if it's Tamiya. We need a fleet of Tamiya Mini Coopers racing around the Volunteer Park wading pool when it's not full of water. We could call it the Volunteer Park Grand Prix. Or the Volunteer Park Tourist Trophy. Sponsored by the Capitol Hill Seattle RC Club. Yes, I've been thinking about this.

Or how about a video game arcade? You know, like the Spaceport that was at Aurora Village during the 80s.
thinking big byseandr2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
How about a new professional basketball arena?
RE: thinking big byMichael2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
what a fantastic idea. they could tear down the crappy QFC and put it there.
sandies are yummy bymiss piggy2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I would also like to see a place that sells yummy soup and sandies. Something like the old still life in Fremont. I would also like a cool shoe store or I hate to say a pho restaurant. I LOVE vietnamese food.
