Brix Complex & WG Clark

I've been renting a parking spot to one of the WG Clark Construction foremen while they build the Brix Complex between Republican & Mercer and Broadway & 10th Ave East.

Suddenly yesterday, he informed me via e-mail that WG Clark was no longer part of the project effective immediately. No other information.

Does anyone know why? Have any guesses why?

Interesting. I noted a few related search terms bringing people to the site starting Tuesday -- "wg clark brix fired" etc. Don't know if it was related, but this kind of stuff wouldn't have helped.

Maybe the easy answer is that the construction phase is complete?

I do think they were let go/fired, as the construction is definately not complete and the foreman was going to be renting the parking spot until the end of the year.

It would not surprise me. In addtion to reading the related post "brix dix", I've witnessed the workers trashing 10th Ave E and Mercer with litter, turning up thier boom-boxes to the extreme with no regard to the fact that are on a residental street, taking every available parking space in the neighborhood by arriving at 4am and sleeping in thier cars until construction can begin at 7AM, etc. etc.

Yes it's a construction site, but there needs to be consideration for the residents right on the same street.

In addition, some of the quality is not what you might expect. Take a look at the balconies on the 10th Ave E side - some are crooked and slant quite noticibly!

I'd like to think that Final Answer's post/letter was the straw that broke the camel's back!

I heard from folks at Vivace that the people in charge of the project had been cutting corners and that the building had problems with their work wasn't up to code and their were issues with the windows. I know that they are way behind and Vivace won't open until Sept 4th or so....

I spoke with a foreman from Charter Construction yesterday at the Brix site and asked him what happened with the original contractor and why they were let go.

He said he couldn't get into much detail, but that the owner had three concerns with the original contractor:
1. Quality 2. Safety 3. Sanitaion

The most interesting thing he mentioned was the sanitary condtions. Apparantley there was rotting food and garbage in a lot of the units due to the workers leaving leftover lunches, sodas etc. I was not surprised as I witnessed myself how they left the same items in the street and grass strips on 10th Ave E and Mercer for us residents to clean up.

He said right now they are in clean up mode, while accessing how to fix the quality issues, but that the building should be complete by year's end.
